Following Myspace, Craigslist is probably one of the most visited web sites that brings such an electic mix of indivduals together.
Craigslist can be a jewel when searching for bargain furniture or electronics, but when it comes to the “gigs” section, it’s a whole new story. There are many amateurs advertising themselves as professionals, and at the same time many professionals who are scammers. You have to be careful on craigslist!
Now for the house hunter, Craigslist has a wonderfully developed and constantly updated housing section.
The housing section is broken into these sections:
- Apts / Housing
- Rooms / Shared
- Sublets / Temporary
- Housing Wanted
- Housing Swap
- Vacation Rentals
- Parking / Storage
- Office / Commercial
- Real Estate for Sale
Whether you are looking to rent or buy a house, live work unit, or apartment, craigslist is a great resource.
Here are 3 to house hunting with craigslist:
- Call the person! Even though it says it’s available, it may no longer be! Save your time and gas and make a call before driving over to see the location.
- Worried if it’s a safe neighborhood? Check FamilyWatchdog.US to search for location information. Along with this you should ask friends if the area is a safe one to be in.
- If you decide to check out the listing, go during the day. During the day allows to better examine the real estate and look for chipped paint, mold, and anything darkness may hide.
Good luck in your house hunt!
